The Breitling DC-3 was first used by the American military between 1942 and 1944, and then used by American Airlines (headquartered in Dallas) before spending time with various commercial airlines. With Breitling?s support, the historic airplane was restored in 2008 by a group of dedicated enthusiasts.
Breitling has chosen to mark the event by introducing a 500-piece limited edition of its famous Navitimer aviation chronograph. This steel Navitimer 01, powered by Manufacture Breitling Caliber 01, will notably be distinguished by its caseback engraved with the Breitling DC-3 World Tour logo. Enthusiasts, however, have had to wait until the fall of 2017 to get their hands on this model, since the brand has decided to have it travel aboard the DC-3 around the planet, thus ensuring it is truly part of the entire adventure. Each watch will be delivered with a certicate signed by the flight captain.
A new size to the Navitimer line-up the new 46mm is a truly magnificent edition. Combining their two long established passions ? chronographs and aeronautics, Breitling build on the tradition of their iconic Navitimer model by adding their first fully in-house movement the Breitling Calibre 01. The movement is entirely constructed in Breitling's own workshop and is now backed by a 5 year guarantee. The bi-directional slide rule bezel is capable of making mathematical calculations including average speed and currency conversion. This watch is secured by a brown novo nappa leather strap with tang-type buckle. This is the perfect watch for a gentleman who is looking for something more than the average sports watch.
